PHOENIX RISING JULY P.A.D. TRAVELOG – DESTINATION: POETRY (THE GREAT PYRAMID OF GIZA)

The Great Pyramid of Giza

The Great Pyramid of Giza

The Great Pyramid of Giza (also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops) is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis bordering what is now El Giza, Egypt. It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one to remain largely intact.

Based on a mark in an interior chamber naming the work gang and a reference to fourth dynastyEgyptian Pharaoh Khufu, Egyptologists believe that the pyramid was built as a tomb over a 10 to 20-year period concluding around 2560 BC. Initially at 146.5 metres (481 feet), the Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years.

The area of Giza in Egypt holds many extraordinary structures including the Great Sphinx along with the Pyramids. All are fair game for your inspiration.

    A SNAFU FOR KHUFU

    He built
    a massive tomb
    but got robbed anyway;
even Pharaoh can be gypped in
    Egypt.

If it wasn’t for the pyramids
and Sphinx with its flat nose,
the dry and arid land would be
a place where no one goes.

  3. Questions

    Whose idea was it?
    Where’d the design come from?
What is the purpose of such structures?
Did aliens or Jewish slaves build them?
    And why?

    Vanity maybe?
    An attempt at immortality?
    A passage into the overworld?
    Or the underworld?
    Or some other world?

    Will we ever know?
    Do we really care?

  4. INNER SANCTUM

In the crypt beneath the sand,
in a structure made by man,
    subterranean tombs are common
    in the land of Tutenkhamen.

Through a series of endless channels
where there is no need for camels,
    Sahib comes here to explore
    deep below the desert floor.

    Scarabs and bejeweled jackals
down there where the spirits cackle.
The ghosts of Pharoahs have conniptions,
and they all walk like Egyptians!

  5. The Magic of Isis

    Stuck inside a pyramid,
    entombed for eternity?
There is a way out. Summon
    the spirit of Isis, Goddess
    of Magic. Her fame spread
    throughout Egypt, when instead
of a crypt, she brought Osiris
    (her husband and brother) back
    to life. What a wife!
